It’s easy to side with heroes. But what about the villain’s rage and motives? This series makes you consider this question. Money Heist (La Casa De Papel) is a Spanish crime series and one of the most-watched international shows on Netflix.

A group of misfits and criminals that society left behind take part in a heist at the Royal Mint of Spain, led by a mysterious man that calls himself “The Professor” (Álvaro Morte). The gang cannot know each other’s names for security reasons so they all have a city pseudonym assigned — Tokyo, Denver and Berlin etc.

The audacity and complexity of raiding the Royal Mint set the tone for the ambition of the gang and has prompted a second, third and a fourth season renewal.

Every episode of the series is filled with suspense and drama that force our beloved characters to make life-changing decisions. And, once again, it’s with the gang that we can empathise the most. Although society tells us to look at them as criminals and “the villains”, every single member of the gang gained our empathy since season one. And it’s because of these characters that the show is so loved all over the world.

Season 4, which came out on April 3rd, is just as addictive as all the previous ones!

Spoiler Alert! Don’t read on if you dont want spoilers from previous seasons

While season 2 rounded out the Royal Mint raid, season 3 and 4 follow our heroes or anti-heroes to an even more dangerous heist.. at the Bank of Spain!

And it’s right at the Bank of Spain that stakes are higher than ever and our gang needs to really prove themselves.

The new season picks up from where it left off in season 3. The gang is still inside the Bank of Spain, guarding hostages and taking the gold from the vault. The stakes are even higher after the gang torched the military tanks the police sent in to terminate the heist.

In the first episode, “Game Over”, the gang struggles to save Nairobi’s life while performing surgery on her wounds. The Professor asks for a truce with the police to assess their next move. Right from the first episode, the feeling of being a part of the action is overpowering. And that is just the beginning!

the gang would die and kill for each other

We observe them grow and care for one another like families do. And that’s what Money Heist is about in this season more than ever. The gang would die and kill for each other, without hesitation. That is shown throughout the episodes, from the gang operating on Nairobi to save her life, to them promising to succeed in her honour. The heist is what they have their minds set on, but the admiration and love for one another is what keeps them fighting. A society that is evil now more than ever, shown by being willing to torture and dehumanise Rio, one of the youngest gang members, to get information.

The rage and revenge the gang feels is so strong in season 4, that it’s impossible not to notice how dark the series has gotten. While season 1 was filled with humour and uplifting moments, (even in the middle of a heist), the new season is filled with tension. Apart from a couple of funny flashbacks, the season focuses on the action and drama within the plot. In the first two seasons, the gang considered the two heists as a means to get money, and to have the life society always forbid them to have. In season 3 and season 4 in particular, the reasons for the heist change drastically. Revenge becomes their main goal — to make society and the police pay for what they have done to them and their loved ones.

As The Professor told to the gang when he thought the police had killed Lisbon (Itziar Ituño): ”This isn’t a robbery or a challenge to the system. This is war. Act accordingly”. And that is exactly what you should expect from season 4. You will not be disappointed!
